A Cabin crew interview is generally conducted through an Open Day or
an Assessment Day. Either one will be very competitive. You will be
seated inside a hotel conference hall joined by dozens, if not hundreds – of other hopefuls.
It’s a good idea to get yourself mentally prepared.
How To Prepare For The Cabin Crew Interview
1 Know The Airline
Here’s a question Virgin Atlantic have asked their candidates:
“Who played the song in our latest advertising campaign?”
Absurd as it may sound, but this was a real question.
Google the airline you are interviewing for and know everything about it.
Find out what their latest achievements are. Any awards they received
lately. What new destinations they added recently to their routes.
Learn about their working culture as well.
They will ask why you want to work for this particular airline. So,
it’s good to know what company you’re getting yourself into. Will you
fit their profile?
EasyJest created this online pre-assessment questionnaire that could
tell you whether you fit the flight attendant job.
2 Shadow Box
A boxer spends hours throwing punches in front of a mirror. This process is called shadow boxing.
The same should go when preparing for an interview. Practice answering popular interview questions
in front of a mirror – or with a close friend. Watch your facial
expressions, making sure that you seem comfortable with the questions
and are always giving out a positive and pleasant vibe.
“Practice
answering customer service questions in the mirror. Do you appear calm?
Are your answers stated clearly and with confidence? This is to make
sure you are looking your interviewer in the eye and not fidgeting. Do
not over practice. They are looking for genuine answers not scripted
answers. So think of some examples but, don’t memorize your answers. – The Flying Pinto
3 Get A Good Night Sleep
It’s most likely that you’ll have difficulty sleeping the night before the interview. Try your very best to get enough sleep.
Prepare for a long day. There will be many rounds of assessment if you’re being considered.
It will be tough.
Sleep well and indulge in a good breakfast. They don’t always serve snacks during the assessment.
4 Update Your CV
Even if you submitted one already, bring a fresh version of your CV.
That shows that you have initiative – which is a very desired trait among flight attendants.
They may want a copy for their quick reference as they grill you with questions. Show them that you’re ready!
5 Wear That Sharp Business Attire
I couldn’t believe it when I saw a male applicant coming to the
interview in black jeans and white casual shoes. He did wear a neck tie
and a blazer jacket though. Nonetheless, he looked like a clown!
What you wear will affect your confidence. Dress sharp!
Suits are best to be in navy blue, black or grey color.
I recommend that you chose the color that is closest to that of the
airline’s uniform. That way the recruiter can picture you in their cabin
crew uniform.
Hide all tattoos and excessive piercings.
Hair must be neat – and pulled back for girls.
Hands are important since they are the part of the body that
passengers will see regularly as you serve meals and beverages. They
must be moisturised and nails neatly clipped and manicured.
6 Remember To Have Fun!
Don’t take it too seriously.
The selection process isn’t about how much you know or how well you perform. It’s about how you adapt under pressure.
“Interview
experts around the world know that interview performance is
directly linked to how SURPRISED a candidate is by the intervew
questions. – Cabin Crew Interview
Don’t seem overly surprised by the questions. Relax and train yourself not to get too nervous because they’ll see that.
Imagine yourself at a family dinner where you’re surrounded by
cousins you’ve never met before. You’re all strangers to each other yet
related.
The recruiters want to see that you’re so comfortable among strangers and can easily connect with people you’ve just met.
A good tip for you is start mingling with strangers now and make new friends.
